Social media/Communications Coordinator (2 positions)

 

Hollaback! Hamilton is currently looking for 2 individuals to fill two unpaid positions to support our media and communications strategies. We are flexible with availability and hours but this position will likely be approximately 5-15 hours per week, hours will vary. Starting immediately.

This is a great opportunity to contribute to the Hamilton community, or fulfill placement hours if your education requires placement or field experience! If you love social media and know how to use facebook, twitter, tumblr and instragram, PLUS you want to end street harassment and violence against women and trans folks, you should connect with us!

Hollaback! is an international movement to raise awareness of street harassment and harassment in public spaces. The Hollaback! Hamilton team knows street harassment exists in our community, including in our online public spaces and strives to educate Hamiltonians about street harassment, how to Hollaback! at harassers, and how to intervene if you’re a bystander. Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Hollaback! Hamilton team
  • Meet bi-weekly in person and online/phone/skype in between with the director or a team member of Hollaback! Hamilton
  • Build on our current facebook and twitter pages (example: sharing and reposting images, videos and status updates, creating events, communicating with other Hollaback! sites and working closely with other Hamilton anti-violence and/or pro-women groups, moderate the twitter and facebook for inappropriate commenting or posts)
  • Create tumblr page, and instragram account
  • Share your own stories of harassment and/or bystander intervention
  • Participate in Hollaback! Hamilton events and other community events
  • Ability to work from home, the library or a coffee shop as we do not have an office location…yet

 

Qualifications:

  • Feminist, anti-oppressive, pro-choice (in all senses of the word) framework and values
  • Knowledge about violence against women, sexualized violence and/or street harassment
  • College or university students welcome, but no formal education required
  • Experience with social media development
  • Engaged and active on social media networks and online communities (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, etc.)
  • Multi-tasker, detail-oriented, effective with time management
  • Comfortable with writing and editing
  • Experience working with diverse communities and individuals
  • Women identified folks preferred. We are anti-oppressive and will consider people of diverse identities and experiences so please self-identify if you choose.
