Legal Coordinator (1 position)


Hollaback! Hamilton is currently looking for one individual to fill an unpaid position to support our work. We are flexible with availability and hours but this position will likely be approximately 5-15 hours per week, hours per week will vary. Starting immediately.

This is a great opportunity to contribute to the Hamilton community, or fulfill placement hours if your education requires placement or field experience! If you study law or have experience with legal studies or understanding legislation, PLUS you want to end street harassment and violence against women and trans folks, you should connect with us!

Hollaback! is an international movement to raise awareness of street harassment and harassment in public spaces. The Hollaback! Hamilton team knows street harassment exists in our community, including in our online public spaces and strives to educate Hamiltonians about street harassment, how to Hollaback! at harassers, and how to intervene if you’re a bystander.   • Work closely with the Hollaback! Hamilton team
  • Meet bi-weekly in person and online/phone/skype in between with the director or a team member of Hollaback! Hamilton
  • Research federal, provincial and municipal legislation and by-laws related to harassment, violence against women, graffiti (or chalking or mudstenciling on public and/or private property), holding demonstrations or marches, etc. Also connect with other community agencies re: their knowledge about this.
  • Write reports based on the above research
  • Consider any loopholes in the law that can be used to assist in raising public awareness
  • Share your own stories of harassment and/or bystander intervention
  • Participate in Hollaback! Hamilton events and other community events
  • Ability to work from home, the library or a coffee shop as we do not have an office location…yet



  • Feminist, anti-oppressive, pro-choice (in all senses of the word) framework and values
  • Knowledge about violence against women, sexualized violence and/or street harassment
  • College or university students welcome, but no formal education required
  • Experience with research, report-writing, legal studies and analyzing legislation
  • Multi-tasker, detail-oriented, effective with time management
  • Comfortable with writing and editing
  • Experience working with diverse communities and individuals
  • Women identified folks preferred. We are anti-oppressive and will consider people of diverse identities and experiences so please self-identify if you choose.
